The Most Common Wedding Planning Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

November 5th, 2018

A wedding is a time when you are both excited and anxious. You are excited that soon you’ll tie the knot with the love of your life and worried as you have a lot of things going on in your head. But it is not possible to execute all of your plans. There are limitations as some ideas may not fit in your budget or the weather may not permit. And if you are forcefully trying to do everything you have in your wedding bucket list, there are high chances that things might go wrong. Also, everything will not go as you planned it, mistakes are bound to happen. All you can do is to be aware of the possible risks involved and things that may go wrong and make a plan on how you are going to mitigate them. Having an idea of things that may go wrong will make you more responsible and careful when you are planning your wedding.

Planning without assessing your budget

Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life. So it is natural for you to have hundreds of ideas in your head to ensure you don’t miss out on your wedding wish list. But some ideas may not be executed within your budget for the wedding. So you need to be very considerate about what ideas you are planning to incorporate in the ceremony. Be it a ceremony and reception venue, catering, or decorations, be very mindful. Think – does  it fit well into your budget? Could your idea need supplementary items that increase the cost further? Also, allocate a budget for different things separately when you are sitting down to plan your budget so that you have a clear idea of how much money you are supposed to spend on what. In this way, you will have a proper plan in place, spend money wisely and have some money in hand to use in case of an emergency.

Not having an alternative plan

Weddings are exciting, but at the same time, they are stressful. Even though you might plan the wedding correctly or have a trustworthy wedding planner in place, there is still some scope for unfortunate incidents that may hit your plans. Make sure you have a Plan B in place in case Plan A does not work out. For instance, outdoor weddings are great, but before you fix a date for your wedding day, be cognizant of the weather trends such as rains or thunderstorms. Spend some time understanding the weather conditions before you go out looking for a venue and fixing a date for your venue. Also, go through your entire wedding plan a month before your wedding day to make sure everything is as per your plans and expectations. Change or tweak those plans if you find that they may go wrong, immediately, to avoid getting into trouble.

Planning a lengthy ceremony

An excess of anything is not good. The same goes for wedding ceremonies. The wedding is the event of your life, but it is not supposed to last a lifetime. A long wedding event is tiring for you as well as all your family members and guests. Also, it increases your budget as you are using the venue space for longer hours. Instead of planning a day long wedding or a wedding that goes on until midnight, how about a wedding brunch or afternoon tea? Some industry insiders suggest that a wedding event should not be longer than 5 hours. Sit with a wedding planner to discuss how much time is enough for different sub-events at your wedding.

Spending all the wedding budget on your dress

Your wedding dress is only a part of your wedding. So, you need to be very reasonable while setting a budget for your dress. If you have set aside a budget for your bridal look, make sure not to blow all of it on your dress. You might want to consider many other things in that budget as well such as lingerie, the veil, and accessories.

Being attached to specific flower

Any wedding is incomplete without flowers. They are the major contributors to your wedding day decoration as they add color, texture, and feeling to the day. But getting attached to a particular flower is one of the common mistakes people make on their wedding day. If you are attached to a specific flower like orchids, roses or tulips, and it is not the season for these flowers to bloom, it will significantly increase your budget. Instead, you must pay more attention to the color of the flower as only their color will enhance the beauty of your wedding, the name does not matter. Talk to your florist about the flower that will be readily available in the season you are getting married. In this way, you will get to choose a flower for your wedding day celebration without being disappointed.
