China

This tradition is believed to be an expression of joy as every female member cries in different tones. Another exciting tradition involves the bride traveling in an elaborately decorated chair to her groom’s house.

Mauritius

While a lot of brides feel pressured to lose weight before their wedding, things are different in Mauritius. In the island country, it is customary for young girls to put on a few extra pounds before their wedding. They are deliberately fed to look plump on their wedding day. The chubbier the bride, the better it is for the groom, who will be considered to be wealthy with such a well-fed wife. 

India

India is known for its cultural diversity. And, one among the many wedding traditions includes the bride’s sister hiding the groom’s shoes on the wedding day. The groom will then have to shell out some money or presents to get his shoes back from his sister-in-law. This ceremony is carried out in the northern part of India and adds to the celebratory spirit at wedding venues and reception. 

Scotland

If you thought that Scotland is only known for handsome kilt-wearing men playing bagpipes, then here’s another one. In Scotland, it’s customary for the friends and family of the bride and groom to capture them and cover them with anything, from molasses and ash to flour and feathers, and parade them around the town. This ritual is done to ward off all evil spirits.
